The question - part 9

Looking at his condition, Priya picks up Ram's phone and decides to inform his home. Deciding against scaring his parents, she drops that idea. Suddenly the phone vibrates with call from Anil. Thanking her stars, she picks the call and informs him of the situation. Anil rushes to the clinic.

@the Clinic:

"Romba thanks Priya. When you picked the call instead of Ram, naan enalamo nenachuten one nimit"

"Avlo tension pannitena..sorrynga..didn't knew you were that close with him"

"Cha cha..tension ila Priya..I thought ...seri vidunga.. dei Ram..are you ok now"

Half conscious and reeling under the effects of sedatives, Ram blurts something.

"Ivan saatharanama pesinalay puriyathu ...ipo idhu enna sonnar"

"Slight concussion..mathabadi nothing to worry...ok Anil..appo neenga paathukareengala..I will leave..already late aaidichi"

"Neenga enga ponum sollunga..will drop you after we deposit this guy in his home...idhuku mela cab kedaikrathu kashtam..double rate poduvanga even if they accept the request"

Priya agrees and settle in the back seat with Ram who suddenly wakes up from his stupor.

"Ennnnaaa traffic..vandilam nagarutha illa park pannitu driverlam asanthu thoongitaangala..."

"What to do ...naatula car jaasthi aadithu..are you alright now" asked Anil

"Aaamanga saar  ..Appuchi  Dacalti nu bike velayae car vida jaasthiya irukarapo..atha vida kammi velaikku rendu tyre extravoda varuthaynu kanda naayum car vaangiduthu....intha car eppo vaanguneenga?"

"dei..unakku lift kuduthen paaru enna solanum..athenna saar nu solraan..oru vela innum mabbu pogaliyo" ran in Anil's mind voice. Priya unable to control her giggles watches outside the window.

Both reach Ram's home. After hearing the incident, his mom scolds Ram for often eating out and falling sick, this time literally.

"Aairam thaan irunthaalum namma oor saapaadu mathiri varaathu. Per vaikrathulenthu evlo mangalagarama saambar, rasam, moar, saadhamnu saathveegama vachirukanga. Vellakaaran saapatu periyum paaru..pisaasu pichakarannu"

"Athu beggar illa mummy burger.." corrects Ram which is frowned upon by his mom.

"Romba thanks ma..un per enna sonna"

"Eeshvaro rakshathu...Deivathinde thuthi.." prays Anil

"Yaaruku thithi?" asks Priya

"Adhu thuthi..thithi illa..thuthi naa paadal..thithi na padaiyal..its getting too technical you know..naanay theliva irukenn..unakenna acchu" queries Ram

"enna ezhavo..kadavulay nee thaan enna kaapathanum" grumbles Priya

"Exactly" and Ram falls down on the couch in full sleep mode.

"Seringamma appo naanga kelambrom..Priyava veetla drop pannitu naan poganum"

"Oru nimisham irumma..vellikezhamaiya paathu veetuku first time vanthiruka..intha kumkumam vachukko. Verum nethiya irukku paaru"

"Aaha..paiyan workout panrathukulla amma set aaiduvanga polarukkay...machi..macham da unakku" nu mind voicela pesikitaan Anil.

On the way back to her home, "Ram amma chancel..semma sweet and veguli la" said Priya

"Aaamam..avanga romba nallavanga..Ram ku set aagalinathum antha jaadhagatha Maheshuku kuduthu ipo avanga life set panni vachirukaanganna parungalen"

Antha "ohh" la pala vishayangala Priyakku clear aanathu Anil understood.

"Aaama ...naan unga call pick pannapo edho nenachen soneengalay..ennadhu?"

"Adhuva..hmm...err..Ram mimicry panraano nenachen.."

"Ungaluku poi sollavay varaleenga...freeya vidunga"

"Seri..kochikaama thittama iruntha solren"

"Avlolam kashtapadalam venaam"

"Aiyo..amma thaaye paradevatha..unna kattikitu Ram enna paadu pada poraano"

"Jothika mathiri edhuku ivlo don't know that he likes you?"

"Hello..idhelaam over..unga friendku apdi edachum idea iruntha..let him decide and talk for himself..sorrynga..thappa nenachukatheenga..and thanks for the lift back ..."

Looking at her going to her hostel Anil was wondering "Sothapitomo?"

The alternative

He entered the room to look at two visibly tired faces and him crying in the other corner of the room.

"Vaaye thorakala"

"uhumm...engalala mudinja varaikkum try pannom.."

"enna pannalum..vaaya mattum therakkavay maateengaran..last three hoursa mannadiyaachu..enna pannalum masiyala"

"hmmm..naan try panni paakren"

What followed were a series of screams and cries and after about half hour struggle and he came back fully covered in sweat.

"Any luck?"

"No..idhuku oray vazhi thaan iruku. Adhu readya irukka?"

"hmm....ipdiye continue aana..."

"vera vazhi illa.."

She kept the crying child on her lap and fed him the juice from feeding bottle, which he thirstily gulped.

It has become a norm for kutty paiyyan to wake up half asleep at around 2 AM and start crawling in circles. Thookathula nadakara mathiri thavazharathulam kooda irukumo? He would try to touch wake me in first try followed by clawing and finally would give a solid kick. Adhukum asaiyalana he will complain to his mom, crying the whole house awake. At times i do manage to wake up in the first attempt, wanting to spare some more minutes of sleep for wifey. But never ever has that happened for she would always be the first one to wake up at even the slightest sign of  snuggle by kutty paiyyan. This happens to be the very person who once when we went out for dinner with our friends to a restaurant in Nungambakkam, slept at every silent second. While coming back by bus, the moment the bus starts moving she would be seen shut eyed and sleeping. For some one who slept so soundly and peacefully, kannu vachitom nenakren, the transformation is huge and can be realized only by those who have seen both the versions.

Somehow, the concept of motherhood, makes mutants out of womenfolk, arming them with special powers of heightened senses towards smell and touch and extra sensory perception towards their kids needs. Maybe its an inbuilt switch which gets sets to "ON" when the kid comes out from them i guess. She would come dead tired from office, travelling all the way for 1.5 hours. The moment kutty paiyyan see her, he would simply jump on her giving no two hoots to me and amma who would be pampering him all the while. She HAS to lift him and cuddle else he would cry his heart out. The moment she see him, konjam cheesya irunthalum unmai, her face lights up and she doesnt mind holding him while she settles down.

Mother's day anniki ellarum avanga ammaku wish panranga. Naama chinna vayasula irunthapo nammala samalika amma evlo kashtapatrupanngannu we may not've realized then, though we are grateful. Maybe that's the reason, why god made the concept of husband to make him see what his parents went through to raise him, in the form of the mom of his children.

7.83 hz by Sudhakar Kasturi- book review

Bloody brilliant.

Literally shivering with excitement while posting this review. Ecstasy apdingara vaarthaiyoda artham purianumna read this book - 7.83hz by Sudhakar kasturi.

'Da Vinci Code' and 'Angels and demons' padichapo it created a similar feeling but it was drowned in the sadness that such books are not in tamil. Sujathavoda sila novels would satiate the thirsty mind. Avar ponaprum, ivarukaprum yaar ipdilaam ezhuthuvangannu oru yaekkam plus thedal irunthukittay irunthuthu. When I chanced upon the review of his previous book '6174' I was very happy to have been introduced to an author who knew his subject and also was well versed in making a story of it. Aana antha bookoda content was way too heavy in physics which tested my tamil skills. I felt ashamed that many of the words mentioned in it were bouncers for me as they were too chaste. But still, the impression it created was indelible. As a comparison between the two, the author has taken lot of pains to correct few things that weren't helping the flow in the first book. For starters, the story goes almost linear from start to finish and even the incidents that comes in flashback mode are told in a start to finish mode. It doesn't allow the concentration to waver from the main plot and like water coalescing to a roaring finish.

What do Wolves have in common with Schumann resonance? how can a simple number like 7.83 play a role in almost pushing a nation into brink of self destruction? Why did the elephants and rats and fishes suddenly attacked each other into a bloody battle that turns fatal? Is it possible to read minds and translate them as messages on screen? Does our DNA decide our characterisitics? Is it possible to induce emotions through technology? How does a simple incident on a Turkish university snow balls into something sinister of epic proportions? The book answers it all.

First page into it, i was a bit shocked to see the chasteness of the language that stumped me in the previous book. Without even reading the chapter title i had plunged headlong into the narration only to later realize that it was a foreword from another famous author. Once the story begun, there was the usual 'cut' chapter, which was abound on 6174, derailing the reading process a bit. Even before i could say "oh not again", the narration turned out to be linear and not jumpy as feared. There were few sections that were italicized to differentiate the scenes happening on same page which was again a noted change from previous book. Kudos to the editor team. Oru rendu moonu edathula spelling mistake. Last but three pagela "aalu" nu vara edathula "gnaan" something has been printed. And in mid of the book, there is a sentence that ends abrupt and other one begins abruptly. Mathabadi, top class job.
Oray the scientists and army men and lady scientists and terroristsa vanthitrukangaly nu yosikarapo enters Vedhanayagam - the nellai slang speaking tamizh vignani. If this is ever made into a movie, this character's cameo would bring the house down. Attagasamana dialogues and all his conversations strike an immediate chord. It comes as a huge diversion and relief in an otherwise heavy duty scientific thriller. His reverence and reference to wolf as "Aadhi mirugam" and how he narrates his escapades with wolves ellam top class. Its because of this character that the last 50 odd pages literally races through to its conclusion at F1 car pace.

During one of the many double centuries that Sachin scored, Gavaskar who was on commentary mentioned how the gap between his bat and pad reduced as he progressed towards his century and then on. They showed video clippings of his stance before his fifty and during his century. It was a super technical catch by Gavaskar which confirmed his prediction that Sachin was in for a big one. The moment i noted that the language was deliberately made easy and the linear form of narration, this was the thought that crossed mind. If it was all maths and physics in 6174, its all nano tech, biology, computer wizardry and zoology in this edition with symbolism playing a big role on both the books. Only a person, who is clear in his understanding on all the above mentioned subjects can articulate something so complex in such a simple terms and weave an edge of the seat thriller around it.

Its has been a literal craving of sorts for me to see such a genre being tried in tamil. We are the story tellers of the world. Our history has so much to share to the world and its the duty of all our authors to make it as interesting as possible in their works and take it to the larger audience. for example, Venice might be the most over rated of all tourist places in the world. But when it finds a mention to the extent described by Dan Brown in "Inferno" people who wouldnt otherwise plan visit might be tempted to do so, at least to visit those places where the chase takes place in person to enjoy the thrill. After reading 6174 and 7.83 i am tempted to visit lothal, chilika and all those locations marked in the book.

Gils verdict: Avlo seriousana matter of annihilation of the country, atha reveal panra aalu nera vanthu sollama edhuku apdi oru scene create pananum? what is the significance of hiding it in his rear and protecting it from the fire caused by explosion? What if it had been destroyed in the fire? apdinulaam logica yosikaama, enjoy the book for what it is. Both his books are treasure troves of knowledge and has interesting trivia about India, told in an easy to grasp manner and best of all in tamil. Padikkarapo was feeling pull arichified with perumitham and felt like shouting "move over english makkas. engalukkum aal irukku".

The question - part 8

@the restaurant:

Mahesh and Kaushiki are seen welcoming their friends.

"Wish u a happy married life in advance" chimed Priya

"Thank you.." blushed Kaushiki

"Unakku Ramar mathiri oru husband varuvaarnu naan wish pannathu balichiduchi paaru " giggled a lady standing next to Kaushiki

"Enga ivlo kolaveria oru wish panirukeenga" queried Priya

"Kolaveria? ennama solara..ramar seethai pola irunganu wish panrathu kolaveria?" questioned that lady angrily

"Of all the married gods Ram thaan worshtu. Wifea poatu padaatha paadu paduthi..thee kulika vachu..veeta vittu kaatuku thorathi..infact saria vachu kaapatha kooda illa..ravanan thookitu poitaan..ipidi patta oru husband venumnu varam kudutha athu kolaveri ilama ennavam"

"Ram worsta? naan ennanga pannen" chipped in Ram
Looking at him, Priya went beet red in color and hurriedly excused herself.

"Antha ponnuku Ram nu sonnalay ivlo kovam varuthu...nee edachum settai pannia?..amaidhiya iru na kekka maatiye" chided Mahesh

"Me one know. Ummachi Ram mela thaan Priyaaku kovam. Naan sumaanachi iruken. Why target me?"

"Ram..enakenamo unga rendu perukum tally aagum thonuthu" pitched in Kaushiki

"Naan ungala korthu vitta kadanuku repaying?" asked Ram

"Adai..butter pongara timela paanaiya udaichiratha" nu paarvaiyalaye Mahesh warned Ram.
Avar mindvoicela Bengalila asingama thitinathu subtitileoda feel pannathunala, silently Ram went to the Buffet.

@the Buffet:

In the queue he waits for his turn with plate in hand.

"Excuse me..if you don't mind..naan antha tissue mattum eduthakalama" a familiar voice interjected the queue ahead of him.
"Oh..sure..heyy..neengala..wht a surprise"

"Halo..naan Mahesh Kaushiki kitta pesitrunthatha neenga paathatha naanum paathen..intha dakaaltilam venaam..thanks" Priya took a bunch of tissues and turned back with a smile forming on her face.

"Iva venumnay vanthala illa idhuvum coincidencea..."a perplexed Ram looked at her moving away.

Suddenly she came back.."ungala onnu ketta thappa nenachuka mateengalay?"

"Queue break panni inum konjam fried rice vachukanuma?"

"Cheee..ipidi vaanga"

"ennada ithu..naama pesa vendia dialogesa iva pesaraanu" Ram followed her in wonderment.

"Kaushiki unga girl friend illaya?"

"Ohh..avar blog link enna?"

"Teertham poatta aada thaan seivaanga...correcta thaan per vachirukaaru"

"Nonsense...Teerthadanamna artham enna theriyuma..." before she could complete the lady who was standing next to Kaushiki called for Priya. She excused herself and went away, leaving Ram ruing another missed opportunity.

"Ahem..may I come in.." asked Kaushiki
"oh..hey..hi..." stammered Ram awoke from his dream

"Dei Ram..enna pakka vantha anniki thaana intha Priyava meet panna sonna ne? athepdi ivala paatha udanay pudichiruchu enna pudikala?" asked Kaushiki

"Ipdi right eye brow usathi left eyebrow straighta vachu question ketta naan bayanthu poi unmaiya solliduven"

"Which is?"

"Nee Minnale padam pathirukia?"

"Nera entha kelvikum badil sollavay maatennu sathiyam pannirukia?"

"Ila..antha padathula epdi Reema Sen Abbas pakrathuku munnadi Maddy kitta mayangiduvalo..athey pola..hehe"

"Che..yucky fellowda still haven't told the reason"

"Usuala mandaikku mela thaana bulb eriyum solvaanga??"
Nodding absentmindedly at Kaushiki he looks at Priya who is busy talking animatedly with that lady and misses his footing. He crash lands into the trash trolley and has a bad fall.

He sees all stars around his head and a loud ringing noise non stop in his ears as if his ear drums will burst. Looking at him falling head first on the floor, Priya drops her plate and rushes to Ram.

A terrified Priya gets even more confused to see Ram smiling while lying half conscious, who was recollecting
his last part of conversation with Kaushiki.

Between now and Forever - book review

Dear Meera Shiva,

Thank you so much for sharing your book for review. That too a signed copy and with a wonderful greeting.
I loved the slip with special note inside the book. It was a pleasant surprise. I for one, never ever ever ever ever ask for a review of anything of mine, be it my speeches or posts. It takes way too much of a strong will and real guts to submit a work for a third person review, that too to someone who is a total stranger.

I found the book from wrapper to wrapper a pretty impressive production. Be it the cover page, both the wrapper pages and the quality of the print, it was all top notch. Due credit to be given to those in charge for the same. The index was another interesting section with character names being used as titles for chapters. It was something novel of an attempt. First chapter of the book itself was like boarding footboard on a fast moving bus. It goes at break neck speed and what would've been a climax in many  a novel was posted as starting point. Many a hindi movie scripts would've been a full blown story of the first chapter itself. The way in which each character has been introduced and linked into the story line was another pleasing aspect. For a person who finds it difficult to follow stories with multiple characters, it was easy on the mind. At 176 pages long, the book is much shorter a story than many would assume. Another plus for the story is that, you can continue in same pace all throughout the book and never have to slow down for its easy going storyline.

I've never read Mills and Boons. When i was discussing the story to a friend of mine, he commented that, it sounds like a story, right out of MnB publication. What I felt after finishing the book was, for a 176 page book, the romance sections were given way too much weightage than the actual story line itself. But then again, its a romance novel. What else can you expect. I also felt, the villains lack any will and easily submitted to the hero, who for a software guy from SFO, is projected like Sivaji Rajini. It felt out of place and there were hardly any twist or trouble for him to accomplish. Things just "happen" to him. He kisses the heroine on very first meeting and gets away with it.  He takes on a powerful politician and a super rich lady hell bent on wreaking vengeance and gets away with it. He drives his first girlfriend, pregnant with his kid, to death and guess what, gets away with it again. He is easily forgiven by everyone and as always, winner takes it all.

If the intention of the book is to fill up a leisure space with a light at heart storyline, this would be the pick.
